Who is Spectacular Girl?
Hi! I’m Spectacular Girl! I’m a fashion and beauty content creator based in Boston. I have always been passionate about fashion and beauty since middle school, and I started Spectacular Girl as a hobby in 2014. Creating content at first was hard, as I lived in India for a while and we weren’t allowed to have jewelry, makeup, or nail polish on. Plus we had to wear a uniform! It wasn’t until college that I started posting content more frequently, because now I could buy my own clothes and beauty products with internship earnings, plus wear them!
How I Review Products and Brands?
When I write a review I focus on writing with my hands on experience of the product or the brand. I generally include first impressions and thoughts overtime, but I always try to update my blog content in case my opinion changes as I use a product more or less. It’s important for me to review products that I’m actually interested in, because I want to be excited when I write a review! 😊
There are definitely brands and products out there that I love or have had bad experiences with. I like to see the bad experiences as an opportunity for improvement or constructive feedback for brands. At the end of the day, my opinion is based on my own experiences and I hope to help you find the best products and brands.
How do you stay unbiased on product reviews?
Many products featured on this blog are purchased by me. As a small creator, being gifted products from brands is a huge opportunity that I’m always grateful to brands for. However, it still comes with a great responsibility to my audience. I still want to make sure that my audience gets the real deal as I would with any other review. When I write reviews where I’m gifted products or sponsored, I constantly ask myself “Am I being biased?” or “Would I share this with a friend?”. This question makes me rethink how my initial impressions or thoughts could be being swayed by their kind gestures.
I do my best to think of all the different aspects of a review that someone reading would love to know. There are gifted opportunites I have turned down if they are not a match to Spectacular Girl or if their product doesn’t live up to the claims. Fun Q&A
Q: When did you start painting your nails? My Kindergarten friend had a birthday party at a nail salon when I was in about third grade, so since then, I have always been obsessed with nail polish! I started nail art in 6th grade when I was looking for activities to do at my birthday party, and came across nail art. Unfortunately, when I moved to India in 7th grade, I couldn’t paint nails as often because we weren’t allowed to wear nail polish to school! Once I started college, I was able to rebuild my nail polish collection and paint my nails more frequently.
Q: When did you start doing makeup? I first wore makeup in second grade for my dance recital. In early middle school, I used to wear lip gloss frequently. And I wore makeup to dress up with my friends, but it wasn’t until about 8th grade that I really wore makeup out of the house.
Q: When did you start Blogging and YouTube? Technically, I started blogging in about 1st grade! I had a website with Yahoo’s Geocities, but Geocities got shut down eventually, so I didn’t blog for a long time till about 6th grade. Then, in 6th grade, I started blogging again and began my YouTube channel with my best friend. It was a gaming channel based on The Sims, but we took it down, though, after I moved to India, as it was hard to collaborate long-distance! Finally, in 8th grade, I started Spectacular Girl around December 2014. But most of my older posts were really cringe, so I took them down!
