Hero Cosmetics Review – Acne Friendly Skincare

flatlay of hero cosmetics products with text hero cosmetics review

Here goes my Hero Cosmetics review with multiple products I have used, both good and bad. Hero Cosmetics is a skincare brand that I discovered accidentally in Target. I was planning to go to Sephora to buy Peace Out Skincare Acne Healing Dots in 2019. (side note, these work great too!) But I ended up stopping by Target before planning to visit the mall and came across the Mighty Patch Duo. They looked like the same thing as Peace Out, so I decided to give it a try, and I ended up liking it! This was the only main product they were offering at the time.

But flash forward to now, Hero Cosmetics is offering a lot more products, and I purchase A LOT of their stuff! Plus, I was gifted some stuff from Hero Cosmetics, which is super cool, but my reviews will still be the real deal!

Some of these products were kindly gifted to me, but they didn’t ask for this content so I’m still putting them to the test like any other product! 🎁

Is Hero Cosmetics Korean?

The founder of the company, Ju Rhyu, is Korean, and their first product originates from Korean skincare. The headquarters is in New York, and some of their products are made in the USA, but some also say made in South Korea. However, the brand never advertises itself as Korean skincare. In conclusion, I would say the brand has Korean influences but is not entirely Korean.

Is Hero Cosmetics Good?

I have had a great experience with most of their products! There are a few that I’m not a fan of, so you can read my reviews below on the products I like and dislike. Hero Cosmetics tries to focus on creating solution-based products, from what I have noticed, and that’s my favorite part about it. The brand is mostly geared towards people with acne, so if you don’t have acne or breakouts, then this brand is probably not going to be any good to you.

FSA Eligible Skincare

Hero Cosmetics has some products that are FSA-eligible. FSA stands for flexible spending account, and it’s a pre-tax account that allows you to spend on medical expenses. Some products count as medical skin care and can be paid for using an FSA card. Below are links to Hero Cosmetics products that are FSA-eligible. Please note that not all retailers count them as FSA-eligible, so double-check before you buy.

Hero Cosmetics Review – Mighty Patches

Hero Cosmetics has a line up of products called the Mighty Patch. These first started a simple circular pimple patches for whiteheads. Today the offer bigger patches for whiteheads and patches for blind pimples.

Hero Cosmetics Mighty Patch Original

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mighty Patch Original is now my go-to when I see a whitehead on my skin. Younger me needed these in her life so badly, but I’m glad I at least found them in college. I used to use COSRX pimple patches because those are cheaper by unit count. However, I switched back to Mighty Patch because these are FSA-eligible.

All the patches are the same size, and they work great. Just apply it to the pimple and take it off 6-8 hours later. I often leave them on overnight or put them on in the morning and take them off in the evening. They do stick well to the skin, and I have never had any issues with them coming off. To help it stick better, use them before moisturizer and after you cleanse, so the skin is clean and dry. If you are interested in comparing other pimple patches, read my blog post on pimple patches.

How to Use Mighty Patch

Peel a Mighty Patch off of the sheet and apply it to a whitehead on your face after you cleanse your face. A whitehead is a pimple that is white in appearance. Take the Mighty off your face gently a few hours after when you see that the patch has absorbed the pus from the pimple. Or take if off 6-8 hours later. If you sleep with it on overnight then you can take it off when you wake up in the morning.

Invisible Patch

⭐⭐⭐⭐ I have tried the invisible patches through and honestly didn’t see much of a difference between the original and invisible ones. The invisible ones still work great but they’re just a little more transparent. Someone can still tell you have a pimple patch on. Overall they work but I don’t think you need these if you have the original, unless you want to be on the more cautious side of less visible.

Mighty Patch Duo

mighty patch duo

⭐⭐⭐ The Mighty Patch Duo is not bad it’s just expensive compared to the original and invisible. Plus you don’t get a lot of patches. This was the first product I ever bought from Hero Cosmetics so I did have a good experience with it. The total cost of this product is $7 on Target which is cheaper than the original patches from a total cost perspective but if you look at the price per patch it is more expensive.

It is a good intro inro pimple patches if you want to try them out for the first time. The packaging is also slimmer which makes it easy to use for travel. It’s also perfect as a cute gift to put in a gift bag.

Hero Cosmetics Mighty Patch Micropoints for Blemishes

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I have repurchased Micropoints for Blemishes over ten times which is not something you will find me doing often! Blind pimples are the worst and this is the only product I have found to work. A blind pimple is a pimple underneath the skin that hasn’t come to the surface yet and tends to be painful.

I have tried Rael’s Micropoints but I didn’t like them at all. And Dr. Jart makes these too but they’re pricier. This seems to be the best option for blind pimples on the market. I do hope they come out with a bigger box of these because I always run out so I like to buy multiple boxes at once. Generally, I use them overnight and take them off in the morning.

Hero Cosmetics Liquid Patch

⭐⭐ I bought the liquid patch because it said it goes well with makeup. However, I was disappointed with this product and ended up returning it. The product is easy to dispense and the applicator is easy to apply and clean after use. It does dry easily and is easy to peel off. The problem is it really isn’t an invisible liquid patch as it is still visible. I might even say more visible because there is no uniform shape. You have to make sure you don’t use too much liquid as the patch will spill and look even bigger. And because it is super thin the whitehead doesn’t come off with the patch, unlike a regular patch. Overall, I prefer using a regular Mighty Patch over this. If Hero were to fix this product they should make it so that the applicator is thinner to reduce spillage. They should also have the whiteheads get absorbed by these easier, so they come off after usage. I did however, think this is good for people with oily skin or pimple near the mouth area as this doesn’t fall off.

Hero Cosmetics Micropoints for Dark Spots

⭐ Unfortunately, I did not like these! This was sad because it’s always been a product I have been dying to try out for my Hero Cosmetics review. I purchased a pack and used the whole pack on one area but I didn’t notice any improvement in my skin. It’s also pretty pricey because dark spots take time to improve. You’re better off using La Roche Posay’s Melasyl Serum.

Hero Cosmetics Nose Patch

⭐ ⭐⭐ I bought this product impulsively because I love Hero Cosmetics and I wanted to try this out. My skin type is sensitive and acne-prone. I do have blackheads on my nose but this product is not designed to get rid of blackheads like a pore strip. It would have been nice if they put some blackhead-fighting ingredients in this.

It makes my nose smooth after removing it and the nose shape adheres on to the nose well. I think this would be best for people with oily skin because it’s quite satisfying when you take it off. However, at the end of the day, it doesn’t do much. Unless you somehow have a lot of whiteheads on your nose it’s not that helpful.

Hero Cosmetics Mighty Patch Surface Large

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I bought this because I did not realize Mighty Patch sold a chin version, but I still don’t regret it. I had a large area of irrtiated skin and pimples on my chin. This made it helpful for me to not touch my skin and to leave it alone. It also helped with some whiteheads. What’s great about this is if you don’t need the entire patch you can cut this in half and use the rest later.

Hero Cosmetics Cleansing Balm

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The cleansing balm is one of their newer products and I have purchased this at least thrice so far! I think the size of this product is really good. Other cleansing balms I have used tend to be smaller and I run out of them quickly. This takes off my face makeup and sunscreen great at the end of the day. This is something I use when I want to take my makeup off or at the end of the day. It comes with a little spatula which is cute to get product, but I honestly just use my fingers. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hero Cosmetics Rescue Balm

flatlay of hero cosmetics rescue balm

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rescue Balm is one of my favorite products because after pimple skincare is not talked about! Most products focus on getting rid of the pimple or acne but no one seems to have products that help with the healing process. This product is easy to apply and can pretty much be used with anything. It also prevents the pimple from forming again from my experience. Rescue Balm is like a lightweight ointment so it absorbs into the skin fast and you don’t need a ton of product. I recommend getting the regular size as the mini will run out fast. But if it’s your first time trying it then you can try with a mini Rescue Balm.

Hero Cosmetics Pore Release for Blackheads

The Pore Release for Blackheads is a product I haven’t been very consistent with using. But overall I do think it is helping a bit. Will keep you posted on what I think.

Hero Cosmetics Force Shield SPF 30

hero cosmetics force shield sunscreen

⭐⭐⭐ I have been gifted two small samples of this product from Hero Cosmetics and overall had a good experience. These samples were received at different times so this is my updated Hero Cosmetics review of the sunscreen. This is designed to help people with redness so it comes in a green-tinted color. Since I don’t have redness on my skin I can’t speak to how well that works.

I did notice a slight white cast but if you blend it in well it’s not that noticeable. That being said I have found it challenging to blend in at times. The product does have a weird finish to it after application because it also doubles as a primer so if you’re not wearing makeup this can feel weird. However, that aspect of it is only noticeable if you’re touching your face. I appreciate how it’s fragrance-free so it doesn’t have that typical sunscreen smell. I recommend trying this if you have redness or acne-prone skin. But there are other sunscreens I like more than this.

Where can I buy Hero Cosmetics online?

Hero Cosmetics is sold at a lot of places. I have previously purchased from Amazon, Target, Ulta, and Walmart. Beware that I have seen counterfeits of these products! Make sure it actually says Hero Cosmetics and the right product name on the product. Don’t put your skin at risk by using a fake version of the original.

FAQs about Hero Cosmetics

Who owns Hero Cosmetics?

The company was acquired by Church & Dwight Co as shared by co-founder Ju Rhyu in her LinkedIn Post.

Are Hero Cosmetics products suitable for sensitive skin?

I have sensitive skin, and I found Hero Cosmetics Cleansing Balm to be great for sensitive skin. Rescue Balm can help calm any redness from pimples after they flatten. And their cleansing balm is great for taking makeup off at the end of the day. They are also part of their Sensitive Skin collectionu.

Which Hero Cosmetics patches are best for acne treatment?

If your pimple is blind (starting to erupt), but there is no whitehead then start with the Hero Cosmetics Mighty Patch Micropoint for Blemishes. If there is a whitehead then use the Hero Cosmetics Mighty Patch Original.

What are the main benefits of using Hero Cosmetics patches?

From my experience they can help speed up the process of getting rid of a pimple. But most of all they prevent you from touching your face and picking at pimples

How do Hero Cosmetics compare to other skincare brands at CVS?

Neutrogena launched their own pimple patches, which you can find at CVS. These are great pimple patches too. There doesn’t seem to be any comparable product to Hero Cosmetics’ Rescue Balm. For other cleansing balms, I recommend at CVS you can try Cerave’s Cleansing Balm. But I prefer Hero Cosmetics because the size is bigger.
