Revlon Lipstick Super Lustrous Swatches on Brown Skin | 9 Shades Tested

If you have ever raided your mom’s makeup collection, chances are you’ve come across a lipstick color of the Revlon Lipstick Super Lustrous. These Revlon lipstick vintage classics have been around since the 1950s. Fast-forward to 2026, and Revlon is still selling these colors more than 70 years later, making them classics across generations.

For brown girls, finding the right Revlon lipstick for brown skin can be tricky. Between model photos that don’t feature brown skin and lighter colors that don’t complement deeper complexions, finding the right match takes some experimenting. Here’s my review of nine Revlon Super Lustrous shades, including lip and arm swatches, plus personal memories to help you discover which Revlon lipstick colors are hits or misses on brown skin.

Revlon Lipstick Red Colors

A red lipstick is a total statement piece! Some people enjoy it because it’s bold; others shy away from it. I love pairing a red lipstick with a red or black outfit. If you love wearing a red lip then read this red lipstick review.

Revlon Lipstick Love that Red

• Shade Description: Warm-toned bright red.
• Personal Nostalgia: Love that Red was the very first lipstick I owned and the first Revlon lipstick red shade I ever bought back in second grade for a tap and ballet dance recital. I had no clue what shade would work for me, and I picked it out at Walmart by the shade name that looked the most interesting. It became my go-to lipstick all through elementary school, because it was the only lipstick I owned! 😂 I even wore it to my fifth-grade graduation and an Oscar-themed party in sixth grade.
• The Verdict on Brown Skin: After retesting my second-grade lipstick-picking skills, I learned that a shade name isn’t the right way to choose a lipstick. This red leans a bit too warm for me. It might work better on people with different undertones, but my undertones are neutral. I prefer cool-toned reds like MAC’s Ruby Woo lipstick. But looking at the picture I took for this shade I don’t think it looks terrible either. It’s just not my favorite, but I would still consider using it. Fun fact: this color appeared in a Revlon ad as early as 1951.

Revlon Lipstick Brown Colors

As a brown girl, you have to check out a brown lipstick! I feel that brown lipsticks don’t get as much attention as they deserve. Many times people are talking about pinks and reds, but many brown lipsticks tend to be flattering on brown skin tones.

Revlon Lipstick Rose Velvet

• Shade Description: Rosy-brown nude.
• The Verdict on Brown Skin: The Revlon Lipstick Rose Velvet is an interesting shade because it’s not exactly a pink color! It’s under the brown and nude shades on Revlon’s Website. This is what makes it a better shade for brown skin tones because it’s not too light to wash you out. The shade Rose Velvet has been seen on celebrity model Ashley Graham as she was a brand ambassador for Revlon.

Revlon Lipstick Desert Escape

• Shade Description: The lipstick’s color sticker was misleading: the shade looks like a rich, dark brown on the lips. For some weird reason the shade sticker looked a bit purple, which kept me away from trying it for a while. The shade itself actually looks good though. I have gotten compliments for this shade on TikTok and YouTube. 
• The Verdict on Brown Skin: It applies as a beautiful brown that’s lighter than Rum Raisin and flatters brown skin quite well. 
• Unfortunately, this shade seems to be discontinued. I took this lipstick from my mom, as she didn’t seem to be using it. I’m assuming she grabbed it on clearance before they discontinued it, because my mom loves a great deal!

Revlon Lipstick Pink Colors

Pink is my second-favorite color after blue, which is funny because everyone assumes my favorite color is pink! I find that pink can be a challenging color to choose from because it comes in a wide range of shades. Hopefully, this guide can be helpful for you.

Revlon Lipstick Pink in the Afternoon

• Shade Description: Light, soft pink.
• Personal Nostalgia: My mom used to have this Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Pink in the Afternoon in her makeup collection, but she doesn’t really wear makeup so I’m assuming she just picked whatever pink shade she saw. I repurchased this color because it was a color I would always take from her in middle school!
• The Verdict on Brown Skin: While it has a fun name, the Revlon lipstick Pink in the Afternoon leans light on the lips. It could work well on fair complexions, but it isn’t the most flattering or brown-girl-friendly pink. Yet It’s not terrible on brown skin, either; it’s just not the best option. Fun fact about this one is the shade is said to be worn in the Breakfast at Tiffany’s featured on actor Audrey Hepburn.

Revlon Lipstick Love that Pink

• Shade Description: Bright, vibrant pink.
• Personal Nostalgia: I remember seeing this color in my mom’s makeup collection. If I’m not wrong, she also had Cherries in the Snow.
• The Verdict on Brown Skin: I prefer this over Pink in the Afternoon. This color complements a medium complexion much better and brightens up the face, because of its vibrancy.

Revlon Lipstick Primrose

• Shade Description: Very light, pale pink.
• The Verdict on Brown Skin: Revlon lipstick Primrose is a big no for brown complexions. The shade is way too light and leaves lips looking too white and washed out on my skin tone. I tried returning it at CVS, but unfortunately, they were unable to take it. I’m not even sure if it would look good on lighter skin tones, but it might considering that they sell this. 

Revlon Lipstick Secret Club

• Shade Description: Medium cool pink.
• The Verdict on Brown Skin: One of the better pinks I have tried, it is noticeably better and more wearable than Primrose. Is it the best pink I have ever used? Not necessarily but I would say it’s decent if you’re on a budget.

Revlon Lipstick Orange Colors 

Orange is definitely a rare color that people wear. It’s a color I enjoy wearing because it’s different, but I usually wear this only when my top is orange.

Revlon Lipstick Kiss Me Coral

• Shade Description: Vibrant orange-coral.
• The Verdict on Brown Skin: Finding a wearable Revlon lipstick orange shade can be challenging but Kiss Me Coral hits the right balance to be complementary on brown skin. I recommend wearing this with a matching orange or coral top for this to look the best. I also found out that this shade was worn in “Something’s Gotta Give” by Marilyn Monroe.

Revlon Lipstick Berry Colors

Berry colors can look great with darker toned tops like purple. The color I shared isn’t quite purple, but it still is a berry-toned color.

Revlon Lipstick Rum Raisin

• Shade Description: Deep plum-brown / berry nude.
• The Verdict on Brown Skin: A massive crowd favorite for a reason. Deeper colors and brown-toned nudes shine best on brown skin, and Rum Raisin delivers a rich, flattering lipstick look. This Revlon Rum Raisin swatch made me realize that darker shades can be a win on brown skin. Celebrity Kim Kardashian has posted on her Instagram about using Rum Raisin in 1993.

Overall Thoughts

I’m glad I got to try all these Revlon shades, and I’m definitely interested in trying more. The best part is that they’re affordable, so you can buy a collection of different shades. Also because these lipsticks have been around for so long, it’s unlikely that they will get discontinued. I know how upsetting it can be to fall in love with a lipstick and then find you can’t repurchase it after it’s discontinued.
